Cartoneras Book-Making Workshop with Carolina Espinoza
Cartoneras are not for profit, coop publishers, that publish books made out of recycled materials (i.e. cardboard). The covers of the books are hand painted by different artists and then sold for very little. This form of book publishing and disseminating culture started in Latin America during hard financial times, but now has spread to different parts of the world and has given new meaning to book making and publishing outside of traditional commercial realms.

Join Carolina Espinoza to learn more about this movement and make your own books. All materials will be provided to attendees.

Every attendee will leave this session with their own handmade book.

The workshop is open to any age—kids and adults can make books together.

REGISTRATION is required for this FREE event. Register here.

Images and Texts: A Workshop in Printmaking
Style will share her work and processes using actual and digital examples in her talk.  The design process — what comes first the text or the image?  She will bring woodcut blocks and the prints from them as well as examples of polymer letterpress using text and image.  Workshop participants will create two works: one will be about writing text inspired by a randomly selected artwork and the other will be to create an image/design inspired from randomly selected text.  Style will share with participants methods to think about and use as they search for their creative solutions.
